TIPPERARY

I was trying out new watercolor pencils and was drawing a jackal.

Do not ask me why.

Instead I got a long legged happy-go-lucky young piglet who definitely looked like he's singing Tipperary....

MORE ADD-ONS

TO ARRIVE IN THE

NEAR FUTURE!

I STILL HEAR YOU

The original name of this painting is Antelope (I Still Hear You).

I was simultaneously making a sculpture of the same antelope (Antelope) with plaster of Paris and as I had finished it I noticed I had forgotten the ears and quite liked it.

When I got back to the painting, I erased his ears too and called it Antelope ( I Still Hear You).

When wondering what kind of an add-on would suit this painting, I wrote a poem - so the deer in the poem isn't a typo!

LITTLE THINGS / PIENIÄ ASIOITA

I needed a face for my exhibition and started on it. A little creature appeared from somewhere on the shoulder.

But right away the face area went all wrong. I decided to cover it.

Then the sun started to play on the surface of the drawing creating a big beautiful wing. I was sorry to see it go as the earth turned.

Because art never overcomes nature, I had to leave it alone for a while. Then I picked up my courage and drew some wings on the little creature.

I had no more ideas. All the other work was just waiting to be hung in the exhibition. Then I climbed up to my work space and...

...finished the picture. A thought came to my head that it reminded me of my friend Outi who had just turned 82. I realized I had carried her in my thoughts all through the process.

Little things is dedicated to my friend Outi who is currently living in her own world of Alzheimer's.

ROTTAKAUPPA

The picture Peilityyni/Dead Calm for the video Rottakauppa was made already in 2005, but it has never been on show. I made it at the time I had two pet rats. It has a strong pantheistic vibe which is quite usual for me.

The "rap" Rottakauppa was born walking down the street in Kallio, Helsinki and I had an even shorter version I used to perform for the VIP in the yearly Art Goes Kapakka City Festival Bus in the wee hours of touring from bar to bar.
